SUPPORT OUR HOOPS - PROTEST! [Aug. 17th, 2010|08:36 am]
EDIT: The start time for tomorrow's protest has been changed to 5:00 am so that the media can cover it. Please pass it on!

Hoopnotica is organizing a peaceful hooping demonstration in front of Las Vegas City Hall this Wednesday, August 18th in protest of the City Council's proposal to ban hula hooping from historic Fremont Street.

Hoopnotica believes that hooping is beautiful form of self expression, protected by the First Amendment. Hooping should not be banned, regulated, or controlled by any government entity in any way.

If you agree, please join us from 5am - 10am this Wednesday on the sidewalk in front of Las Vegas City Hall (400 Stewart Avenue @ 4th Street)

We will have FREE HOOPER TANK TOPS and water for everyone!

Please RSVP here and PASS IT ON!

Thanks for the suggestion. I haven't tried posting on Yelp before but there's a first time for everything. :-)

It's going to be a fun because hooping makes people smile and feel good! However, this is also an important exercise of our First Amendment Rights. Here is a great article about this particular proposal and why it is significant. I am an avid hooper and even though I don't hoop on Freemont street, there has got to be a better way to deal with hoopers and independent street performers besides going to the extreme of issuing an outright ban. Freemont Street is a public space and there has got to be a compromise that can be reached.
